How is working from home changing work practices, households and wider communities?

Our research team based at the University of Melbourne and Western Sydney University is exploring the social changes taking place. We seek to provide useful information for a range of stakeholders including local, state and federal governments, industry, and the community.

stakeholders

We are conducting short interviews with companies, organisations and individuals that are involved in employing, recruiting, or supporting working from home practices. The purpose of these interviews is to find out the challenges and opportunities that have already been identified about this type of employment.

Households

We are conducting interviews with people who work from home to explore how this work is changing people’s work life, home life and social life—as well as the flow-on impacts on other household members. These interviews will help us evaluate whether working from home is sustainable for households.

Our other projects

Commuting Life

This project explored how daily commutes impact on city workers

We are a team of human geographers based in Australia who have expertise in researching the changing geographies of work. We explore how these changes relate to digital technologies, transport and mobility.
